THE?incorrect spelling of a soldier's name on a town war memorial has finally been rectified — after almost a century. Corporal Charles Rendle's name has, since the war memorial in?Stratton was erected, been spelt incorrectly — appearing as Rendell. His grandson, David Rendle, following years of effort, and with the help of Bude-Stratton Town Council, has now managed to amend the error and give Corporal Rendle the tribute he deserves. David, who was also supported by family members, said wading through stacks of paperwork and encountering many a delay had been well worth it in the end. "We're delighted and thrilled to bits with Bude-Stratton Town Council that they have done this. We can't thank them enough. It's nice to have it put right, and they've come up trumps in the end." With the help of Launceston monumental mason David Gynn the lead letters were removed and the name reassembled with relative ease.
