HARVEST thanksgiving for the parish of Launceston took on a different form this year, when harvest evensong was conducted in St Mary Magdalene Parish Church.

The Rev Mary Williamson welcomed parishioners from all the churches in the parish, when the harvest hymns were led by Robin Stubbs, organist.

The choir sang the anthem 'Achieved is the glorious work' from Haydn's Creation. James Wonnacott read the lessons and the intercessions were led by Robert Tremain, who was also crucifer.

During the service parishioners brought forward symbols of the harvest. Arthur Wills from St Thomas took forward an offering of topsoil; Heather Letts and Don Sharpe, churchwardens of St Mary's, offered wheat and all cereals, potatoes and crops from the fields; Gloria Laseby from St Stephen's, offered flowers, fruits, berries and vegetables from orchards and gardens and Barrie Boundy (St Stephen's) took to the altar, seeds for next year' crop, as a symbol of the trust people put in God.
