A MUSEUM volunteer with a passion for history is leading a world war one commemoration project in Holsworthy

The hope is that an additional memorial can be installed in the town — a fitting tribute to the 200 soldiers from the area, who died during the war years.

Shawn Dymond, from Holsworthy Museum, began the commemoration project around eight years ago, initially looking into the town's war memorial.

There are currently 36 names on the memorial, but after countless hours of research, incorporating 22 surrounding parishes, Mr Dymond has identified around 200 soldiers who died in world war one from the area.

Many who are not named on the town's memorial were likely to have been unknown, including John Bailey.

He was raised in a workhouse and his sister died at a young age — therefore, with no family to submit details to the local newspaper, Mr Bailey's death after he was wounded at war in 1914 was unrecognised.
