I AM contacting you with reference to an article published in the 'Post' on January 22 entitled 'NCDC agree to hand over responsibility of land to Bude and Lanstephan community groups'. As chair of the Berries Avenue Regeneration Committee I would like a reply printed to this article as there were a few inaccuracies, which as a community group serving the community, we would like to correct.
The article claimed that there was currently a slide and other play equipment on site; this is slightly inaccurate as there is only one piece of equipment.
NCDC claimed that they have granted BARC £17,000, this is inaccurate as they have only granted us £8,300, the rest has come from other funders and our own fundraising. We have been granted £24,000 from the Play Fund application, and are currently putting a bid together for some more funding from the Play-Builder fund. The total we have at the moment is £40,844.54 so this will enable us to purchase new equipment in the future.
NCDC also indicated that we wished them to install the equipment, this is inaccurate as we have approached a private contractor.
I appreciate that NCDC are extremely busy and the press release details were merely an oversight on their part, but as chair of BARC we would like our community to be informed of the correct details regarding our project.
BARC will be very active over the next year as we plan to organise activities and events for the children and young people in our community. We have set the date for this year's fun day in August, it will be on August 9. If anyone would like to support our group in any way please contact Leesa Parfitt on 01288 352384.
Bude.
