MEMBERS of the Rotary Club of Bude were up at the ‘quack’ of dawn on the three days of the Bude Lifeboat weekend.

Their aim was to sell to the general public as many of the tickets at £1 each with numbers relating to the ducks. These ducks had previously all been in for a good rub down and renumbered to ensure all 4,000 were present and correct.

The first duck over the line was backed by Jean Bevan of Bude who was delighted to receive £200 with the second and third places of £100 going to Tracey Lewis from Holsworthy and Tina Reidy who was on holiday from Bournemouth.

Thanks were expressed to Simon Whattler for organising the race and to the Whattler family for allowing their barns to be used for the checking of numbers of the 4,000 ducks!

Over £3,700 was raised by the race, which will be split between the RNLI and Rotary charities.
