LAUNCESTON Town Council has made clear it does not want the Cattle Market Car Park designated for retail development.
The Post reported previously (February 11) that Cornwall Council backed down on a suggestion to put a retail development in the Cattle Market Car Park.
Cornwall Council met county and town councillors as well as other town representatives on Monday, February 8, to discuss the possible inclusion of the car park as a land allocation for retail in the forthcoming Site Allocations plan.
Cornwall Council agreed not to pursue the plan as a result of the feedback, after the idea was not well received by those in attendance.
At the town council’s meeting last Tuesday, councillors formally confirmed they do not want the Cattle Market Car Park designated for retail development.
Jade Farrington, Liberal Democrat Cornwall Councillor for Launceston?South, has proposed instead that Cornwall Council explores the possibility of putting a small amount of affordable housing at the back of the short stay car park, which is under used.
