RESIDENTS in Lifton may be making efforts to ‘Clean for the Queen’ next month.

The national ‘Clean for the Queen’ initiative, which aims to clear up Britain in time for the Queen’s 90th birthday, will take place over this weekend, March 4 to 6.

Chairman of Lifton Parish Council Chris Edmonds told a meeting of the council last week: “A resident approached me about a litter pick around the village. Then, spookily, I read something about this initiative ‘Clean for the Queen’.”

Mentioning that litter picks are due to take place this weekend, Cllr Edmonds added: “I don’t think, if we decide to do something, we will hit that date.

“I think the WI do an annual litter pick around the village and I didn’t want to step on their toes.

“We might want to make a combined effort for the Queen.”

Cllr Edmonds proposed the parish council liaise with the WI to see if the group is planning a litter pick and, if so, whether members would be happy for a combined effort.

If agreed, a date for the litter pick would be chosen at the next parish council meeting.
