AS a slight deviation from the usual Coles Mill route members of Holsworthy Walk and Talk parked by the Anvil Corner War Memorial, walked down the road then bearing left to Hollacombe.

Thanks were expressed to Margaret, the organist of St Petroc Church in Hollacombe for showing the walkers round. In the porch is a lintel dating from the 12th century and the church had various architectural additions in the 13th century followed by significant restoration in the 1880s. The tower is unusual having a saddle back roof, housing three bells which unfortunately have not been peeled since the 1930s due to safety reasons.

This time of year is often an opportunity for reflection on the past 12 months and the group feels a little self-congratulatory. It has navigated the various government guidelines to continue providing free weekly walks at levels 1, 2 and 3, promoting physical and psychological health to the local community.

A spokesperon added: “We have risen to the challenge of becoming an independent walking group following Ramblers’ announcement last December to make significant changes to groups who wished to remain associated to them. We have also launched our own website.

“We would like to thank all those who have helped us during these challenges.

“It just remains for us to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and good health for the coming year.

“Our new walk programme is available with a variety of walks on offer. Whether you are already a member, or want to walk off some of those seasonal calories, or make a New Year’s resolution to get out and about and be a little more active and increase your social life then please do come along.”
