IS CRIME on the rise in Holsworthy?
According to latest figures provided to the town council at its May meeting there has been a slight increase in the last month but local PFCSO Mark James assured councillors this wasn’t anything to worry about as overall crime figures were in fact down by 20%.
During his update given on May 22 to councillors, PFCSO James said: “Only thing to note specific to us is that we are aware people have moved into numbers 19 and 20 on North Road. The closure order has been lifted but there were prohibitions and we weren’t aware there would be anyone going in quite so soon but it is something we will continue to monitor.”
The councillors were asked if they had any questions regarding the monthly police report supplied ahead of the meeting. New member Cllr Toby Johns said he was concerned by the ‘200%’ increase in crime in the area in the last month: “It has gone up from one to three crimes, I know it isn’t a big jump but is it something you are dealing with?”
PFCSO James reassured councillors these figures weren’t as dramatic as they may appear. He explained: “You very often find figures month on month jump like this and the figures can look startling. But we are about 20% down on overall crime figures which is great.”
The mayor, Jo Heaven thanked PFCSO James for the update.
