TWO fire engines from Hartland and Holsworthy and a water bowser from Barnstaple were sent to a report of a fire in an outbuilding that was attached to a house at Bradworthy on Sunday, January 5 at 1.21am.

Two appliances from Bude Community Fire Station and a flexi-duty station manager also assisted the Devon crews at this incident.

On arrival the building was well alight and the officer in charge requested an additional two fire engines and a 4x4 with additional crew from Hartland. The two fire engines came from Hatherleigh and Bude. A further appliance and officer from Cornwall also attended for breathing apparatus support and liaison.

Western Power were also requested to attend to isolate the electrics and a pole that was involved in fire.

The fire had spread to the roof space of the attached property and crews got to work using two breathing apparatus sets and four hose reel jets. The welfare unit from Crediton was requested at this time.

At 2.49am the fire in the attached property was confirmed out but still within the outbuilding. The incident was sectorised and work continued on each sector using three breathing apparatus sets, four hose reel jets, two main jets, two ceiling hooks, a roof ladder and a thermal imaging camera.

At 3.44am, Western Power had isolated the electrics. At 5.02am breathing apparatus was discontinued and crews were damping down and making up equipment. Cornwall appliances left the scene and one fire engine relief was requested for 5.45am.

By 6.27am, Bideford had one fire engine in attendance using one hose reel jet to dampen down hotspots. Crew were still in attendance dealing with hot spots at 7.52am.

By 10.07am, the fire was dealt with. Crews organised for a re-visit to be carried out at 2pm.
