FIRE crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service have urged people to keep the Duchy’s countryside free of fire.

It comes after fire crews were called to a fire in Grogley Woods, between Bodmin and Wadebridge.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “One major appliance and one light 4x4 appliance from Wadebridge were mobilised to this incident. Approximately 20 square metres of scrub was found smouldering. The fire was extinguished using a hose reel jet.”

“On July 15 we responded to a fire in Grogley Woods. Fires in the countryside can easily be started accidentally, or even deliberately. A carelessly discarded cigarette can lead to a huge fire, where the results to the wildlife can be devastating, so please help to keep Cornwall's countryside free from fire.”
