SIX pumping appliances were called to extinguish a large fire at Bude on Friday, May 31.
A derelict property on Bagbury Road was destroyed by the blaze which firefighters were called to at 2.37pm.
Police had to cordon off the road and issued a warning for members of the public to stay away from the property for a number of reasons, including the risk of asbestos.
During the blaze the incident commander for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service had to request further appliances to support the incident due to the limited water supply in the area.
More than 40 firefighters from across Devon and Cornwall were called to the address.
In total, appliances from Bude, Holsworthy, Hartland, Delabole, Launceston, St Just, Wadebridge, St Dennis and Saltash were on the scene.
Two appliances remained over night to dampen down the fire. The incident was then handed over to the police after midday on Saturday.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police said: “The public are urged not to approach the premises cordoned-off by police in Marsland View, St Annes Hill, Bude, following the fire there yesterday (31 May).
“It is insecure, unstable and liable to collapse. There is also a possible asbestos risk.
“More secure protection is being arranged, but in the meantime, nobody is to cross the police tape.
“Thank you for your assistance and understanding.”
