A PARISH council is appealing for information to help compile a list for a world war one war memorial.

Whitstone Parish Council wants to hear from anyone who has family connections to the village and whom they know fought in the first world war.

Those who died in battle will be comemorated on a war memorial, which will be installed in July, ahead of the centenary of the outbreak of the war.

A grant of £1,000 was donated to the memorial from Cornwall Councillor, Nicky Chopak.

Parish clerk Esther Greig said: "We want anyone who has family connections or believes they know someone from the village that lost their lives in world war one to get in touch. We have ten names so far, but want to ensure we don't miss anyone out."

Brian Phillips from Derby spotted an online article about the war memorial in the village magazine. He said it was 'fortuitous' that he saw the appeal, while looking for information about his family history.
