AROUND 100 people attended a meeting last week to find out more about a neighbourhood plan for Camelford.

A neighbourhood plan enables communities to develop planning policies that reflect their own local issues. Once in place, the policies in a neighbourhood plan will be used to help a planning officer determine whether a planning application is approved or refused.

Cornwall Council last month approved an application for Camelford to become a 'designated area' and a steering group for the plan is due to have its constitution ratified in the coming weeks.

Town clerk Lee Dunkley said of the meeting: "There was a lot of enthusiasm and support for some kind of community-backed plan for the area, really so we can see and end to ad hoc kinds of development that suit only the needs of the developer, and have a more co-ordinated plan for how the local community want their town and parish to look over the next 15 years."
