LAUNCESTON Golf Club was established in 1910, when a group of locals, with the support of the Williams Family at Werrington Park — who remain landlords to this day — established a nine hole course at St Stephens.

Fields located roughly in the middle of the current layout were used up until 1914, when World War One broke out and the course was reverted to farmland. It wasn't until 1927 that a similar nine hole route was put into place, allowing regular use once more. Golf carried on through World War Two, and records exist of service personnel being invited to play — including American troops garrisoned in the town before D-Day.
