CALSTOCK F have retained their Launceston and District Snooker League title by just two points.

Calstock, who won 16 and lost four of their 20 games played, just pipped Lifton to the post, with Colin Park A in third, coming a further seven points back.

All 11 teams again competed in one league, but this time with individual player handicaps adjusted, the gap between the top and bottom teams was much narrower.

Colin Park B’s Jamie Daniels was crowned the Singles champion after defeating Nigel Thorpe (Stoke Climsland) 3-2 in a tense final while Callington’s Ken Brown and Roy Chalkley beat John Andrew and Edwin Barriball (Colin Park B) 3-1 in the doubles decider.

There was further success for Callington in the Team Knockout Cup after they won an epic contest against Bere Alston B, with captain Brown potting the black in the final frame.

The highest break of the season was a 53, made by Andrew Baker (Colin Park A). Other monthly break winners were Jim Kelly with a 41 and 40 (Colin Park A) and Martin Vanstone’s (Lifton) 29 and 36.

The most successful player throughout the year in the league and Team Knockout Cup matches was Lifton’s Dave Vanstone.

Mid-table Luckett were the eventually winners of the Ken Allen Memorial Trophy while the finals night and presentation evening at Calstock on Saturday, April 21, saw a challenge match between champions Calstock and a Pick of the League team go to the wire, with the visitors taking the honours 3-2 thanks to Dave Jones’ last frame victory.

League chairman Andrew Williams expressed his thanks to Calstock for hosting and to the ladies for the buffet before league stalwart John Perrin presented the trophies.

The league AGM will take place at Luckett Social Club on Monday, July 16, with anyone attending encouraged to get there at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Any new teams are welcome.
