AFTER two years at the helm, Holsworthy's mayor has passed on the baton.

A 'Mayor Choosing' ceremony was held this evening (May 17) in the Memorial Hall, which saw Cllr Helen Parker hand over the chain of office to her former deputy Cllr Nigel Kenneally, with Cllr Debra Ste Croix being chosen as the new deputy.

Former mayor Cllr Parker said she was "looking forward to a rest" after a busy two years in the role and had "every faith" that Cllr Kenneally would lead the town well.

Cllr Parker took on the mantle of mayor during the COVID pandemic and has successfully led the council through some of its toughest times. She was thanked by all councillors for her hard work and was presented with a gift at the end of the ceremony.

Cllr Kenneallt remarked "I couldn't have had a better tutor".

During the evening a number of grants were also awarded as well as the usual Freeman of Holsworthy and Community Champion honours bestowed.
