A GROUP of local students enjoyed a once in a lifetime sleepover experience after getting to sleep at the National Marine Aquarium.
Pupils from Egloskerry Primary School enjoyed an unforgettable residential trip this term, beginning with a magical night at the National Marine Aquarium where they quite literally slept with the fishes.
The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is the largest public aquarium in the UK. With over 4,000 animals to meet including sharks, stingrays, octopuses, jellyfish and even two turtles, there will be something different on every visit. On top of this, one hundred percent of the National Marine Aquarium’s proceeds go towards the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity dedicated to connecting people with the Ocean.
Surrounded by glowing tanks, graceful rays, and curious sea creatures, the children experienced torchlit tours and early-morning marine wake-up calls in an immersive learning environment they’ll never forget.
The trip was rounded off with a walk along Plymouth Hoe, taking in the fresh sea air, stunning coastal views, and iconic landmarks. It was the perfect way to end a trip packed with learning, exploration, and wonder.
Lynsey Slater, Principal at Egloskerry Primary School has described the trip as ‘magical’ and has praised its ‘blended’ approach, creating an exciting learning environment.
She said: “This was a truly magical experience for our pupils, one that blended education, exploration, and excitement. Sleeping beside the aquarium tanks and visiting key cultural landmarks brought learning to life in the most memorable way. These opportunities are so important for building curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of discovery.”
