YEAR 6 at Stoke Climsland Primary School recently spent a day building an electric racing car from scratch.

Following a gruelling week of SATs tests, Year 6 class teacher Tom Lumby rewarded his pupils by inviting local Engineering Ambassador, Andy Millar, into school for a day to help them build the single-seat electric racing car.

All the children in the class took part assembling the car from a pile of parts, and by the end of the school day they were able to test drive it around the playground.

After the build day Mr Millar commented: "This was a huge job to complete in one day, but all the pupils worked incredibly hard as a team to make it happen. They thoroughly enjoyed using real tools and getting their hands dirty!"

The school are now planning to take the car to the 'Greenpower' schools race day at Newquay in late June, by which time it should be running at speeds of up to 15 mph.
