PUPILS from Years 1 and 2 of St Joseph’s School visited Lawrence House Museum in Launceston on Tuesday, October 11.
Year 1 went as part of their ‘Ourselves’ topic, so looked at the old toys, which included a dolls house and a farm set. While a far cry from some of the more action-packed toys they may have at home, they certainly caught their imaginations. They had a chance to play with these toys and then took part in a discussion comparing them to the toys they have today.
Year 2 went as part of their ‘Houses and Homes’ topic, so they looked at the Victorian bedroom, living room and kitchen that are immaculately preserved in Launceston’s very own museum. They were able to have a feel of some of the Victorian objects and ask questions to the education officer, who was extremely helpful when answering.
The pupils were lucky to be able to visit the museum before its closes for the winter, and especially to have the opportunity to touch and feel some of the artefacts, a wonderful opportunity to experience history and a great opportunity for the children to enjoy one of the town’s many treasures.
