Children at St Giles-on-the-Heath School are learning how to cook basic simple healthy family meals. Beccy Robinson, the school cook, has put together a series of recipes which can easily be adapted to create other dishes. Each child in Years 5 and 6 are in the process of completing a five week programme, cooking kebabs, meatballs, pizza, broccoli crumble and chocolate cake made from courgettes! The school has benefitted from a Food Standard Agency Pack which allowed them to buy quality equipment especially designed for children to use. To their knowledge, St Giles is the only school operating such a scheme in Devon. The feedback from the parents has been very positive and the children have shown a continuing and developing interest in food and cooking.
