WARBSTOW is the home to a busy primary school which has various activities and events going on throughout the week.

The school's recent Ofsted report stated: 'Good teaching and a stimulating curriculum with lots of exciting activities are examples of the school's effective improvement strategies that enable pupils to make good progress.'

On a Wednesday morning the whole school is making music. The pre-school children take part in singing with Katie and Serena while a samba lesson takes place in the hall. Back in the main building one group is singing and one group is learning how to play the violin and cello.

Several years ago the school was part of the Wider Opportunities Programme and chose to receive violins and cellos. The music sessions were so popular with the children that it was decided to extend the provision.

Samba equipment was purchased and a singing group added. Music sessions take place on a Wednesday morning and the groups of children rotate every term.

Mrs Littlewood, violin teacher, said: "I did have my doubts when Mrs Morris came up with the idea, but now I am totally convinced it is a brilliant idea."

The school has extended their thanks to the Music Service for providing its expertise and also to those members of staff who then carried on their work.
