ON Wednesday May 20, the Director of Studies of CEIP Blas Infante, Maria de Rosario (Charo) was welcomed by all staff and pupils to St Stephens CP School for the day. Throughout the day Charo visited the classes, was interviewed by classes 3 and 4, whose geography topic this term is Torre Del Mar, Malaga, where Blas Infante school is located, and listened to songs, including some sung in Spanish! The staff provided a Cornish themed lunch for Charo.
The visit was part of the partner school project which St Stephens joined in February when Ms Neale went to Spain to meet the staff and children at Blas Infante. Blas Infante is a 'Bilingual' school, where English is taught from the age of three years and also through PE, Science and Music from the age of seven. This provided an insight into how a foreign language can be taught successfully through the primary curriculum. As part of this project, children from St Stephens and Blas Infante, exchange emails on cultural topics and topics of interest, including sport! This is to encourage cultural awareness and knowledge about life in another European country. Also, as of September, Spanish will be taught to all children at Key Stage 2, and this link will provide a great platform for this. At the moment Class 3 receive emails from their link class in Blas Infante and enjoy the challenge of translating them, assisted by their class teacher, Ms Neale.
