IT HAS been another busy and exciting week for the children of the Shebbear College Pre-School. Getting out and about on the college campus, the children made a visit to the science labs where head of physics, Mr Palmer, demonstrated how electricity can be obtained from fruit and vegetables and proved this by lighting a bulb connected to oranges, apples, potatoes, limes and a banana.
They also visited the biology lab where they saw snakes, fish, hamsters, a skeleton and a variety of plants. On the way back, the children met up with senior school pupils.
The children also visited the college’s new music centre where they explored all the practice and recital rooms, visited the recording studio, tried out numerous musical instruments and also had a singing lesson with sixth form student Cameron Mills.
These trips out around the College’s 85-acre campus are part of the regular curriculum for the pre-school children, designed to enrich their learning, enabling them to experience parts of the senior school and interact with older pupils at the college.
Shebbear College Pre-School offer three funded days every week to local families. This breaks down into 2.5 days of government funding with an additional half day given free of charge by the college. Wrap-around care and free taster days are also available. Local families are invited to visit to see the facilities at the pre-school and find out more.
