AS part of its annual report, Launceston Town Council will be inviting residents to share their thoughts via a questionnaire.

In the past, the council’s annual report, considered at the annual town meeting, gives a breakdown of various areas of responsibility of the council as well as supplying financial information.

This year, the council has agreed an alternative approach to the 2017/18 report — it will set a range of ‘measurable aims and objectives’ and contain a questionnaire for local residents to allow the council to understand if the decisions it is making are those the town considers important, and to better understand if the services the council offers should be increased, or potentially reduced.

The draft annual report agenda item considered by the town council at its meeting on February 20 read: “It is hoped that by offering residents the opportunity to respond to the council as well as providing the information contained within the report, we will be able to advise local residents of what powers and duties the council has and explain those areas where we may not be able to affect change directly or as easily.”

Copies of the annual report including the questionnaire will be made available at the annual town meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, April 18 at 6.30pm in the town hall.

Discussing the draft annual report at the town council meeting on February 20, Cllr Dave Gordon said: “I think it’s a brilliant report, and anything taken to the public can only be applauded.”
