SCHOOLS across the Post area celebrated World Book Day in style on March 3, showing off their creativity with some wonderful costumes.
World Book Day aims to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success — more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.
The team behind World Book Day want to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
Locally, students from various local primary school got involved and were delighted to dress up as their favourite characters.
At Coads Green Primary School they promoted reading together, with the older children supporting the younger.
A spokesperson said: “We celebrated World Book Day by sharing our favourite stories. The eldest children in the school were paired with our youngest, and they enjoyed reading together.”
Whereas Tregadillet Primary School they chose to follow a theme. A spokesperson said: “The children at Tregadillett had a great day dressing up as characters from myths and legends for World Book Day!”
