OTTERHAM Community Primary School has won a prestigious ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition, aimed at primary school councils in Cornwall.

Think Big allows children to generate ideas on how £500 can be spent to improve something within a school that has benefits for the community. It promotes entrepreneurship, creative thinking, presentation skills and teamwork.

Otterham Community School market stall will be getting built at the front of the school, and will be available to the school and local community to sell produce.

Once the children have assisted in the building of the market stall, they shall consider the finer details of running it and inform the parents and the wider community — watch this space!

A statement from the judges said: “We really liked the way you presented your entry by using strong arguments, a model of the structure and sample produce from your garden. We particularly liked the detailed pricing, the emphasis on ‘school grown food’ and your team’s ability to answer the judges’ questions.

“This entry stood out for the inclusion of the business aspect, raising money for charity and the creation of a robust structure, which can be used all year round, as well as for school fayres and as a Christmas market.”

Congratulations have been extended to pupils Jack Lawler, Reece Bye, Olive Hamilton, Ruby Coleman, Charlie Prout and Isobel Jones for their ‘outstanding achievement’.
