Year 7 pupils at Budehaven Community School have received training to become peer mentors.

The Mental Health Support Team from the Cornwall Partnership - NHS Foundation Trust, came into Budehaven last week to work with some of our Year 7 pupils.

Pupils received training in listening and empathy skills to help them to become peer mentors.

This initiative is to support the positive mental health of prospective Year 7 pupils during their transition day visits, as well as during their first term at Budehaven when mentors will provide one-hour weekly sessions of support under the guidance of trained Budehaven School staff.

The Peer mentoring will run alongside our already successful Star Mentoring Programme. Seventy-two Year 7 pupils have been successfully trained in mentoring and will support Year 6 pupils on their transition visits, transition days as well as helping out on their first day at Budehaven in September.

Mrs Bardsley, head of Year 7, said: “Mrs Osborne and I are extremely proud of the mentors we have this year; our prospective Year 7 pupils are extremely lucky to have such a high level of care and support on their transition journey.”
