Students in Year 7 at Sir James Smith's Community School, Camelford, have been learning about crime in their local community as part of their Geography
lessons. They have been developing links between criminal actions and impacts on people. As part of the unit of work, students are given the opportunity to work alongside local police. Students have been able to use speed guns to measure the speed of passing traffic in Camelford and then question motorists about their actions. Since working with the police the students have been learning how the police present data on crime figures to the public. Students have been presenting graphs and maps based on the data they collected during their visit. Students that have not yet worked alongside the police will be given the opportunity in the next few weeks. The Geography staff at Sir James Smith's would like to thank PCSO Sam Smith and her colleagues at Camelford Police Station for allowing the students to experience working alongside the police.
