ST STEPHENS Academy’s Pupil Forum and UNICEF members worked in collaboration on Friday, October 7, with members involved in promoting healthy eating in schools.
The schools local area manager from Chartwell, Beccy, discussed with the children where their food comes from and how it gets to their plates at lunchtime. She explained how food is grown and harvested, and the process it goes through before it can be eaten.
The children were then given the opportunity to make a harvest sheaf, this is one of the ways people used to show their thanks during harvest.
In response to what they had learned that day Jazzy, a Pupils’ Forum member, said: “Moulding bread is not as easy as it looks!”
Adam, another member of the Pupils’ Forum, said he thoroughly enjoyed the activity and added: “I learned how to make the ear of corn. It was really complicated, but I really enjoyed using the technique.”
The sheaf is now on display in the school hall for the whole school to see.
