POLICE intercepted an illegal rave on the outskirts of Abergavenny over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Officers were tipped off about the gathering at Fforest Coal Pit, at the foot of Sugar Loaf near Llanvihangel Crucorney, just before 8pm on Saturday.

They attended the scene on privately-owned land where some 20 people had congregated with amplifying equipment set up and tents erected.

Details of those present were taken.

A police spokesman revealed that five vehicles were found on the site.

All those discovered at the location were given 'direction to leave' notices by police.

The spokesman said, "Officers remained in the area to ensure those present left peacefully - and no others joined the gathering."
