LIFTON Parish Council will remain in contact with Devon Highways and the fire service ‘to try to get some support’ with reducing the speed of traffic at Darkey Lane.

The Post has previously reported that residents had raisd concerns about speeding on the small slip road, at the top of Darkey Lane, by the bench. It is within the 30mph speed limit.

The parish council had asked Highways to look at the situation there.

Nicola Taylor, Lifton parish clerk, told the Post: “The parish council contacted Devon Highways to enquire whether the slip road into Darkey Lane could be closed in order to slow down traffic entering Darkey Lane from the main road.

“This is not possible due to legal and cost issues. The council then followed up the idea of speed bumps to slow traffic but again these would be prohibitively expensive.

“The parish council remains in contact with both Devon Highways and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service in order to try to get some support with slowing traffic in this area.”
