Following the success of this year’s Lifeboat Weekend, held from August 27 to 29, and raising £27,000, the fundraising team are now hoping to recruit volunteers to organise next year’s highly anticipated event, as well as additional events that will take place throughout 2017.
On Friday, November 25 (tomorrow), an open day will be taking place at Bude Lifeboat Station, Summerleaze, to welcome those who may be interested in taking part. There will be a chance to meet the team, get more information and provide what they have to offer to a new team.
The committee are looking for some fresh ideas and energy to breathe some life into many of the regular events they host over the year, including Lifeboat Weekend, but volunteers are also expected to come up with new and exciting ways to engage the public in the important work of the crew, as well as the vital fundraising to ensure they have the training and equipment needed to carry out their lifesaving work.
There are many interesting roles to fill, including the role of chair and press officer, but the team are also interested in hearing what skills people can offer to the group.
Commitment is flexible, depending on individuals’ circumstances, but for anyone looking to get involved, meet new people, put their skills to use, or even just learn something new, the committee are looking forward to meeting them.
On November 25, guests can have a tour of the lifeboat station, get up close to the lifeboat and meet the crew, chat to the existing volunteers, and enjoy mulled wine and carols sung by the sea shanty group, the Bencoolen Wreckers. The shop will also be open for gifts and Christmas cards.
The event will take place on Friday, November 25 from 6pm until 8pm at the lifeboat station, Summerleaze, Bude. There will be free parking available in Summerleaze car park.
