THE annual Christmas fayre at Crackington Haven Institute was held recently.
Dozens of people attended with plenty on offer. In the end, over £1,000 was raised for two charities.
Co-organiser, Audrey Short, said: “It went very well and we had a really good day. We had lots of people in and we raised £1,160 with proceeds split between Cornwall Air Ambulance and Cornwall Hospice.”
The fayre is well known for its excellent food, which is led by catering manager, Gill Shipsides.
Audrey said: “For lunch we had soup, pasties, sandwiches and rolls, cakes as well as tea and coffee. It’s pretty good.”
As well as the dining experience, there’s also plenty of stalls.
Audrey said: “We had 18 craft stalls, which included the likes of art and glasswears. I try to make sure I don’t have more than two people with a similar sort of stall so that everyone can get a fair crack of the whip.
“The crafts presented to us were of a very high standard of workmanship with a seasoned touch. We also hold an enormous raffle, and we pride ourselves on it. Margaret Kirkwood, who organises it, usually manages to raise between two and three-hundred pounds.”
Audrey then thanked a number of people.
She said: “Thanks to Gill and the catering team and to Barbara Cooper and Tina Martin who worked on the charity stall. They did a really good job and raised a lot of money for each charity. Three-hundred and twelve pounds plus donations went in both.
“I’m very grateful to the local businesses and shops for donating prizes and vouchers for the raffle. Sue Marshall, my daughter and a couple others did a great job in going out and getting the prizes.
“I’d also like to thank everyone who came. Also we have a very good band of people who came and set up on the Friday night and cleared up after. We have a lot of good people behind the scenes.”
