STUDENTS in Year 11 at Sir James Smith's Community School at Camelford — who are in the process of applying for further education, apprenticeships and jobs — have been given a professional insight into the art of interviewing.
A number of local Camelford Rotarians
volunteered to give the students mock interviews, which were carried out in conditions which were made as authentic as
possible.
These took place at Soul's Harbour Church Hall, near the school, and lasted for around 25
minutes at a time. The students who were brave enough to be interviewed took along CVs to aid them in the 'job-application' process. They then received feedback on their 'performance'.
The seven Rotarians were Rob Allingham, Barry Burton, David Mills, David Flower, Vice President David Flanders, Ian Bowden and Bob Flower. Jill Jeffs, wife of Rotarian Ray Jeffs, was also an interviewer.
They interviewed in pairs and then consulted on the young people's presentation, length of answers, knowledge of the job/course they wished to pursue etc. Feedback was provided which many of the
students acknowledged would help them a great deal in their up-and-coming college and job interviews.
Among those who
volunteered to take part in the exercise was Rebekah Georgiou-Stevens who is planning to become a
barrister and Dougie Rehling who is aiming to make his mark in the music industry.
