SCHOOL children are enjoying the fruits of their labour after producing their very own apple juice.

Marhamchurch C of E Academy has recently launched a brand new initiative which has seen apples from the school’s very own apple trees harvested before being freshly pressed to create a delicious, locally produced apple juice.

This exciting project is centred around sustainability and community engagement. Bottled and ready to enjoy, the juice is now available for purchase at the Marhamchurch village shop, as well as the Refill Shop in Bude, priced at £3.50 for a 750ml bottle. In addition, the school will be selling the juice at upcoming PSFA (Parent, Staff and Friends’ Association) events.

Proceeds of the sales are set to be put towards funding enriching educational experiences for the school’s students.

The school managed to get the juice ready for sale in time for National Apple Day in October, which is held to honour the humble apple and the importance of traditional orchards. First established in the UK in 1990, the day encourages appreciation of apple diversity through activities such as tasting, juicing, and baking, and the school’s juice has played its part in shining a light on some of the wonderful fruit the UK has to offer.

Deirdre Petersen, headteacher at Marhamchurch C of E Academy, said: "We’re proud to see our school produce being used in such a meaningful way. It’s a wonderful example of how learning, sustainability, and community spirit can come together to benefit our pupils and the local community."

Tracey Cleverly, CEO of Learning Academy Partnership said: "This is a brilliant example of how schools can connect learning with real-world experiences. The apple juice project not only celebrates local produce and enterprise, but also strengthens community ties, something we value deeply across our trust."
