STUDENTS at St Joseph’s School in Launceston are celebrating after receiving a swathe of impressive GCSE results.
For the cohort of 2025, results are in, 86 per cent of St Joseph’s students gained 5 GCSEs or more at grade 4 and above including Maths and English; 92 per cent of passes were at grade 4 or above and a stunning 35 per cent of passes were at grade 7, 8 or 9, exceeding both the regional and national average.
Headteacher Mr Oliver Scott said: “I could not be prouder of the class of 2025. They started secondary school amid the pandemic but have built so much from there, and to see them perform so highly is a huge credit to them, although they will always be far more than the grades they achieve. St Joseph’s will always primarily be about the people they are, and who we can help them to be, and it is through nurturing that, and knowing them as individuals, that the exam grades come.
“We have children who have come through the junior school and those who have joined later, many of whom may have struggled or been unhappy in other settings for many different reasons. We are fortunate to be able to work with each child as a person, and it is such a source of pride for me and for all school staff to be able to share in their successes and to see who they grow to be as well as what they can then achieve given the opportunities we, uniquely, can provide. Over and above the results was the Year 11 who wrote to me saying “so many students have been shaped by St Joseph’s commitment to providing a safe, inclusive and enjoyable learning space, and I wish that all educational establishments were as supportive of their students as St Jo’s – it would have a hugely significant impact on society.” What could be better than that?
“Well done to each and every pupil who made up our Class of 2025 – it is wonderful to see such strength in the year group, and in each individual who collected their results today.”
