A camera club in Launceston has been recognised as one of the best in the country for the third year in a row.

Launceston Camera Club was awarded first place in the Amateur Photographer of the Year competition’s Camera Club category.

The UK-wide competition hopes to recognise the very best amateur photographers in the country.

Over the last ten months, 27 of the group’s members have been entering the competition, building up a good lead against other rival clubs. Achieving a total of 905 points, dwarfing their nearest rival’s score of 430 points.

Chairman Geoff Trevarthen said: “The enthusiasm, commitment, and stamina delivered by our members over the last three years has been both outstanding, and humbling. I am very, very proud of all of our members and our club!

“Yet again, we’re punching well above our weight for a relatively small club.”

He added: “This is the third year that the competition has been running, and Launceston Camera Club has been awarded first place each and every time so far. That’s first place out of all of the camera and photographic clubs in the UK who entered. Yet again, we’ve put Lanson on the map.

“Not many photographers in the UK would have heard of Launceston Camera Club three years ago before this all started. I bet they’ve heard of us now!”

As well as this club-wide success, four members’ entries placed within the top ten of their respective categories.
