A PACKED Callington Town Hall was the scene of a musical extravaganza recently when Stoke Climsland Primary School put on a dazzling performance of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'.

All 160 children in the school took part, with Joseph himself very ably played by Year 6 pupil Jack Osborne. In accordance with the 'Stoke spirit', the children acted, sang and danced with tremendous confidence, flair and enthusiasm.

The main cast of older pupils were joined by some rising stars from younger classes, and included slick and hilarious performances by Jordon Blatchford as Potiphar and Charlie Crichton as his wife.

Top singers included narrators Angela Onyett, Rebecca Mayo and Charlotte Watts, soloists among the brothers Louie Jordan and Ross Millar, and Pharaoh George Horton.

The ambitious project, instigated by newly qualified Year 6 teacher Tom Lumby, went from concept to performance in a single half term thanks to the efforts of the entire school staff and of course the children, plus many parents and friends.

Stoke Climsland Amateur Theatrical Association (SCATS) provided technical expertise and equipment, and a SCATS member and school parent governor, Laura Osborne, painted the scenery. Among the other parent helpers were Stephanie Picton who made the costumes, Nicki Pinkham who helped with choreography, Andy Millar who was sound engineer and Nicky Mayo, who gave many hours of general support.

Live musical accompaniment of a very high standard was provided by Trudy Bailey, Tim Senior, Tim Young and Andi Sweeney, who gave their time voluntarily to learn and perform the 125 page score.

Acting Head Teacher Sian Vaughan said: "This has been a fantastic experience for the children. I am really proud of the whole school community, for the way the children have worked and performed and for the way the adults have pulled together to make the production work so well. I think we'll all be singing lines from the show for some time to come!"
