THE future of Holsworthy’s weekly market is to be discussed at a meeting of the town council.
In recent months, consideration has been given to changing the market from its current weekly model to one where it becomes sustainable in order to preserve the event in the historic market town.
It was confirmed in June that the council were seeking professional advice from an external consultant in order to assess what operating model would prove viable for the future of the market going forward.
In draft minutes from the June meeting of the council’s market committee, the market manager noted that several traders had resigned, stating that there had been “five resignations due to various reasons including decline in footfall, community negativity, moving to larger premises, health and weather. Traders have expressed concerns over the discussions on the proposed increase in stall pricing structure of the market in addition to the proposal to become seasonal.”
In the agenda for the upcoming meeting of Holsworthy Town Council’s market committee to be held on Wednesday, September 24, the findings of the consultation exercise are set to become known with the authority discussing the council resolutions from April to move the market to a seasonal model.
