HOLSWORTHY Town Council agreed to distribute £1,100 in grant money to eight local organisations at their meeting on Wednesday, October 1.

The council had received grant applications from ten organisations: Holsworthy Museum, St John Ambulance, Holsworthy Majorettes, the St Peter and St Paul Sunday Club, Bude and Torridge CAB, Holsworthy Scout and Guide Management, Holsworthy Phoenix Camera Club, Vitalise, WRVS and the St Peter's Fair Committee.

The Finance and General Purposes Committee proposed that the council award £1,000 in grants, an increase of £100 from last year. They recommended that £100 each should be awarded to the Museum, St John Ambulance, the Majorettes, St Peter and St Paul Sunday Club, the Holsworthy Scout and Guide Management and the Camera Club with £400 going to the CAB.

At last week's meeting of the full council, the town clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley explained that Vitalise and WRVS had not been chosen to receive any grant money as they were not based in Holsworthy and the St Peter's Fair Committee had been left out because they had recently received a grant of £2,000 from the council to go towards the purchase of a new stage.

However, Cllr Des Shadrick said he was "disappointed" that the St Peter's Fair Committee were not going to be given any grant money as the entertainment the committee organises each year "adds greatly to the enjoyment of living in Holsworthy during St Peters Fair Week."

He proposed that the council grant the committee £100, which was seconded by Cllr Paul Sales.

Councillors voted in favour of the proposal taking the total amount to £1,100. The money will be distributed in April 2009.
