KEEPING the tradition alive, pupils from Holsworthy CofE Primary School paraded through the streets of Holsworthy on April 5 displaying the Easter bonnets they had created.

There was a plethora of creativity on display, with each bonnet being uniquely decorated by the children.

Organiser of the parade Laura Lewis, physical education lead at Holsworthy CofE Primary School, said: “The tradition of the Easter bonnet parade has made a come back, now in its third year more and more children are making bonnets and designs have got bigger and better.

“The teachers felt it was something they really enjoyed when they were at school and they wanted to share this experience with the children. It was wonderful to see so many parents lined up in the square cheering the children on.”

The parade fed into work the children have been doing at school around the meaning of Easter and its importance to Christians. Symbols of new life and new beginnings take centre stage in their learning and this was reflected in their creations, with many of the bonnets featuring chicks, lambs and flowers.

Laura added: “Children have had lots of fun making their bonnets at home and sharing them in school. There was even an opportunity for children to enter their bonnets into the school Eco Easter show and win a prize.”
