At a meeting of the Holsworthy Community Forum, which met last Thursday, Trevor Sillifant said the town's hospital had been inspected and been given the highest grade: 'Excellent'. The guest speaker at a meeting, which was held at the hospital, was Dawn Bewes, who for the past 20 years has been one of the leaders of the Holsworthy Preschool Playgroup. She said it was a thriving organisation, founded 40 years ago and run by a committee of parents. It was a registered charity and inspected by Ofsted every three years. There were seven trained staff and 36 children aged two to three currently on the role. They met every Monday to Friday morning in their own premises in Rowland Gardens off Bodmin Street. Usually the children started with one session per week and added more once they have settled. The emphasis was on learning and development through play and activities included visits by a nurse, St John Ambulance and by Dan the Fishman and trips to such places as the fire station. They were constantly organising fundraising events such a forthcoming Wine and Wisdom Quiz at the White Hart on March 28. Parents were asked to help out by doing a duty on a rota basis. The charge was £4.50 per session or £5 for parents not on duty. For further information, contact Dawn on 01409 254242.
