GOVERNORS, staff, pupils and parents of Whitstone Primary School were delighted with the outcome of the school's recent inspection by Ofsted.

Under the four main headings of assessment (achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management), the school was judged by the inspector to be 'good'; overall, the school was graded as being 'good'.

The report stated that pupils' achievement in reading is 'excellent' and they make very 'good' progress; their achievement in many other subjects is also 'good'.

The teaching was judged to be 'consistently good'. It motivates pupils to be fully engaged in their lessons, with tasks designed to meet the needs of the pupils and encourage an eagerness to learn. In his discussion with pupils, the inspector found they talked with enthusiasm about the opportunities they enjoy at the school.

The inspector noted that pupils behave very well in lessons and around the school, being polite and considerate to each other.
