ST Stephens Pre-school has joined the An Daras Multi Academy Trust, which includes St Stephens Community Academy.
The pre-school began in the chapel on St Stephens Hill over 30 years ago. It was in 1998 that St Stephens Pre-school moved to St Stephens’ school building, however, at this time it remained a separate organisation.
The pre-school was located in the school building until 2005 but, due to an increase in school numbers, the pre-school moved into the Elliot hut and has been there ever since.
The pre-school joining the school officially ensures the pre-school continues and there is pre-school provision in the St Stephens community.
It also ensures that children from the pre-school can continue to make use of the school facilities such as the grounds and lunch provision.
It will also promote a smooth transition for the children from the pre-school who move into the foundation stage at St Stephens. Another benefit will be that parents from the pre-school can join in parent events.
Claire Paul, a trust director said: “I have been involved with the pre-school for many years and although there have always been good links with the school, I am sure that this new phase will benefit the children, parents and staff.”
The pre-school has been used by many of the parents and staff while they were young. Two pre-school staff members, Marie Whitely and Sarah Basford attended the pre-school themselves and are enjoying working there and giving back to the community. Heather Bishop has worked within the pre-school since 1998, and has been pre-school manager since 2013.
Over the next year, parents of the pre-school and academy will begin to see many pre-school events take place alongside those at school.
They are invited to read the school newsletter which will share pre-school activities as well school activities. The website will also detail pre-school information.
Miss Taylor, head of school and Mrs Coole, chair of PTFA welcome all parents to support PTFA events throughout the year. They welcome suggestions from parents about how they can continue to improve and academy links.
