THE future of the Old Bank in Camelford was up for discussion at the organisation’s annual general meeting recently.
The committee of the Old Bank came together to discuss its plans for the coming year, as well as going over the future of the community hub when the building’s lease runs out in two years’ time.
Based in the old NatWest bank in the centre of Camelford, the Old Bank has welcomed a number of local groups to its doors, providing a central space for the community to participate in activities and local events.
One of the trustees, Claire Hewlett, who has been involved in the community hub since it was set up in 2016, told the Post: “We’ve got two more years (left on the lease of the building). When we set it up the trustees said they would do the five years — that’s what the majority decided.”
However, as a Charity Commission-led organisation, it is ‘hoped’ that when the current board of trustees’ time comes to an end in two years, the lease will be renewed and a new trustee committee will be formed to carry the venture on, which provides so much for the community.
Claire, who is also mayor of Camelford, added: “It is hoped that the lease will be renewed, but the existing trustees have been working their socks off for the last few years and it’s hoped that new volunteers will come forward to take the project on for the next few years.
“The Charity Commission category is very broad so the new volunteers can try out their own ideas and develop their own vision for the community space.”
