THE business arm of Lawhitton based charity, Cornwall Community Foundation, has presented a cheque for £2,800 to Liskeard and Looe Foodbank.
Cornwall C100 Club members Cornwall Glass and Millerson Estate and Letting Agents visited the foodbank to present the cheque, which will enable the foodbank to improve its storage and handling facilities.
Jeremy Miller of Millerson said: “We are delighted to present this funding on behalf of the C100 Business Club, a group of like-minded businesses who come together through Cornwall Community Foundation to pool charitable giving to support local Cornish community groups just like Liskeard and Looe Foodbank.”
The foodbank maintains a store in Liskeard where food donated by the community is banked and can be drawn on by people in crisis. Care and support professionals identify people in need and supply them with a voucher. When a client presents a voucher the foodbank provides them a food box sufficient for a minimum of three days’ meals.
Liskeard and Looe Foodbank continues to see growth in demand for its services. Project manager David Berry said: “From January to the end of August this year 1,096 people have been given emergency food. This equates to 9,864 meals. The people we have helped include 376 children.”
The support from the C100 Club has funded new industrial shelving, mobile access steps and improvements to product handling facilities. David added: “We are staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers and the new equipment has streamlined our operation so we can serve our clients more effectively.”
Kati Bawden of Cornwall Glass said: “As C100 members it is a privilege to be able to visit projects and see first-hand what we are supporting. We saw the Foodbank’s goods-in, sorting and packing operation in action and were really impressed by the commitment of all the people involved in helping those in urgent need in their local community.”
