THE first fire station open day in over two decades in Holsworthy has been hailed as a great success by its organisers.

Held in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK's fire services and their families, the event saw Holsworthy’s fire crews open their doors to the public for a series of demonstrations, events and tours around the station.

The event raised £1,185 for the charity, with the organisers expressing thanks and gratitude for all those who supported and sponsored the event.

A spokesperson for Holsworthy Fire Station said: “It was our first station open day in over 20 years here at Holsworthy Fire Station. We all had a great day welcoming and meeting you all and showing our visitors around the appliance and station. Also demonstrating our RTC extrication skills and procedures for all to see. Massive thank you to all that come along and supported our charity open day and raffle in helping raising funds for charity. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

“We are very pleased to say we had a very successful day and have raised a fantastic total of £1185.90 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

“We would like to thank all the businesses for their kind donated items and amazing support with our charity raffle. These all range from fantastic donated gifts and vouchers, and also selling raffle tickets on our behalf from their shops/business. Without this great support we couldn’t raise these amounts for charity.

“Also a big thanks to Bude Community Fire Station, North Dartmoor Mountain Rescue, Natalie Searle and all the local volunteers on the day for assisting us with the refreshments we are so grateful for your great help and support!”
