ERIN Wosnitzka, 23, from Bude, took on the London Marathon on Sunday to raise awareness of the stem cell donor charity Anthony Nolan after she lost her friend to Leukaemia.

Erin was pleased with her time of 5:52:02 and said it was an ‘amazing’ day, despite the slight sunburn. She said: “All I can say is that the atmosphere in London was electric.

“The support from spectators was completely overwhelming and it was incredible watching runners help each other finish in the record-breaking conditions.

“It was an amazing day for both runners and supporters, even if some of us got a little sun burnt.”

Erin ran in support of Anthony Nolan and was able to raise more than £3,000 for the charity that finds stem cell donors for blood cancer patients.

Speaking about why she chose to support this charity, Erin said: “I lost one of my best friends/university housemates, Alice Byron, to Leukemia in 2016. Alice was lucky enough to receive a stem cell transplant, which was sadly not a good enough match, so due to complications she sadly passed away not long afterwards.

“By raising for Anthony Nolan not only can I spread awareness of the stem cell register and how we can all be a match — and save a life — but also to raise money to help sign people up to the register and then find matches for those that need stem cells the most.”
