THE children in ‘Turtles’ class at St Breward Primary School — ages three to five — have been learning all about ‘People Who Help Us’.

The children first had a visit from two police officers: PC Andy and PC Debbie.

The police officers spoke to the children about their role, and answered any questions they had. The children then had the chance to dress-up in some of the police uniform and wear a variety of hats — some were really heavy.

The children had their fingerprints taken with special ink and they even were able to sit inside a real police car.

The school also took the children on a visit to the local fire station. They were shown around the fire station by some of the fire fighters.

The children saw inside two different fire engines and they talked about what equipment fire fighters use.

The children had the chance to sit inside the fire engine and even got to use a real fire hose. A spokesperson said: “It was a fantastic day!”

Lastly the school had two paramedics come in to speak to the children. They brought one of their ambulances to show them.

The children had the chance to use some of the equipment on the ambulance, and to role play how to help someone in an emergency.

The spokesperson added: “We believe that first-hand experiences are important to support children’s development. They learned so much and had the opportunity to experience something completely different to their normal day-to-day activities. Thank you to everyone who visited us!”
